Listen everyone, I know the game of thrones fandom has been crazy the last few days and there’s been a lot of some fans reaching across the aisle to argue on posts that clearly aren’t aimed at them. But I just want to say…you guys are doing great.
All you who are tagging your theories properly so that you can discuss them with like minded individuals while warning off people who don’t like your theories? You’re doing great.
All you who are putting effort into analyzing the tiniest details and facial expressions? You’re doing great.
All you who are reading theories by people you disagree with because you think its important to take in other views? You’re doing great.
All you who stay away from theories you know you hate for your own mental health because there’s nothing that says you HAVE to engage with every opinion? You’re doing great.
All you who love a character so fiercely that you would defend them to the end and are being careful to stay off posts of people who don’t agree? You’re doing great.
All you who are neutral on a character but let people gush to you about how much they love that character because they’re your friends? You’re doing great.
All those who are taking the time to have a calm discussion with those who don’t agree with your perspectives, trying to see their point of view without name calling? You’re doing great.
All those who step away from an argument when you know its getting too heated? You’re doing great.
All those of you who ship a thing and love that ship with all your heart? You’re doing great.
All those of you who avoid your NOTPs and let the fans enjoy them? You’re doing great.
All those of you who just love Game of Thrones and want to continue to write fanfiction, make fanart and create theories to fill in the long wait before season 8? You’re all so lovely and doing great.
Listen, its gonna be a long four months. I get it. But at the end of the day, we need to be kind to each other. If you love Daenerys and hate seeing hate against her? Block the tags, scroll past the posts etc. If you love Sansa and hate seeing hate against her? Same thing. If you hate a theory? Just keep scrolling. Don’t make yourself angry. Its not worth it.
If you’re part of the ship war, you don’t have to wage a battle on every post that disagrees with you. And if a post DOES make you angry, message a friend about it! Rage in a private chat with someone who wants to hear it and not on someone else’s post.
Because, we’re all doing this for fun right? This is fiction. This is a show we love. its fun. And there’s no need to wreck someone else’s fun. There’s no need to be right about everything. And there’s no need to purposefully make yourself angry, especially if its negatively effecting you.
So breathe in deep, practice self care, know its okay to step away. But remember you can still be just as passionate about your faves, theories and ships (so long as you tag them). There is a balance to walk. And to all the types of people I’ve mentioned above? You’re doing great.
I’ll honestly never understand why people hate Elizabeth. She’s one of the few wholesome and good people in this damn series. She’s sweet, caring and only wants the best for Ciel. How could you hate that?
