I lay it down as a general rule, Harriet, that if a woman doubts whether she should accept a man or not, she certainly ought to refuse him.

I mean…no but also very much YES.
Mark zuckerburgs floundering with pointless technology is so much less harmful than elon musk actively galvanising the entire population of twitter and pushing people to become radicalised to the alt-right. Its not a pipeline anymore, its just a tunnel
Given the amount of outrage that is pouring out toward Paramount at this time, in addition to people cancelling their subscriptions left and right, they will probably release a statement in the next few days to try and do damage control. I would put money on them blaming the writer’s strike.
Do not let them fool you. Do not let them redirect your rage. More than likely, the cancellation would have happened regardless and the strike will be used as the scapegoat.
The strike is not the villain here. The strike is not the reason of the cancellation. Do not let them convince you otherwise. It is possible for shows to get renewed AND for people to get paid fairly. It is necessary for people to be paid fairly if you want to continue to get good content.
Direct your hate and outrage where it matters: To the rich white people who only care about fattening their wallets, not about art, or stories, or the people who make them happen.

UK folks!!
There’s some new ‘guidance’ for schools in the works, which aims to force teachers to inform parents if a child is questioning their gender, or identifies as trans.
This would also involve refusing to acknowledge a child’s gender identity without express consent of the parents AND the personal approval of the head teacher.
I can’t stress enough how dangerous this will be for trans and queer children in the UK. Some of you may remember Thatcher’s Section 28, a piece of legislation designed to “prohibit the promotion of homosexuality”.
Practically, this bill legalised homophobia and orientation-based discrimination for years.
THIS guidance for teachers will be worse. This guidance directly targets trans children and puts them at risk of discrimination, harassment and abuse by the people supposed to protect them.
Below is a link to a petition you can sign to counter this guidance. If you can, PLEASE write to your local MP. If they are labour, it is likely they will have opposed Section 28 when it was released and, if enough determination is shown CHANGE CAN HAPPEN.
We cannot let this guidance get a foothold.
We cannot endanger trans children.
DON’T GIVE THEM AN INCH.
This is devastating to trans youth but a secondary effect is gong to be making the school hostile to queer staff. Let’s be real, the staff members who are visible queer are the ones who these kids are overwhelmingly going to come out to who are going to be put in this position where they have to choose between protecting that child and their legal obligation to report (which is obviously the government’s fault, not the kids). This is going to push those people out of education which is then going to make the environment even more hostile for young queer kids and reduce non-queer children’s exposure to queer people. You don’t have to make a law saying trans people can’t teach, you just need to make teaching ideologically impossible for queer people.
We attended a protest against the pundit pushing this 'guidance’, and he was so shamed to face the trans activists outside that he went out the back door of the venue.
The people working on pushing this through don’t want to listen, but it isn’t too late. Make your voices heard. Contact your MSPs and MPs. Attend protests. Protect trans youth.
He brought me up the same way, to reverence the music and the drama and the rituals of the old gods. To love nature and to fear it, and to rely on it, and to appease it where necessary.
Hey from a fellow former redditor learning this site, you should probably also add your age in your bio. Most people on here expect at least that much personal info bc it’s up to them to block minors if they post NSFW stuff or just don’t want to interact with minors on here
I am “Don’t share any personal identifiable information about yourself on the internet” years old.
we absolutely do not expect you to share your name, age, mental illnesses or flashing weak points, that’s a radical vulnerability psyop that a small minority of the site users fell for because they don’t know any gay people in real life
tiktokers who say classic lit is bad because its not relatable 1. thats not the fucking point 2. you’ve clearly never read twelfth night as a trans bisexual
you’ve clearly never read Frankenstein as a student
If you’re fucked up enough a lot of classic lit suddenly becomes uncomfortably relatable tbh.
This is 100% true, but also: literature is a great way to engage with people you don’t actually relate to, and practice feeling empathy for them anyway. I have never been in a battle, but I have cried over the Iliad multiple times because I was suddenly made very aware that every single war has people like Hector in it, who leave their families one day and just never come home to them. Please keep looking for things you find relatable in unexpected places - but not everything has to be relatable for it to be worthwhile.
Not everything has to be about you to be worth reading
It’s not even essential that a story makes us empathize to a greater extent with the characters, the main thing is to make us feel something when we read it.
